A New Approach of 3D Lightning Location Based on Pearson Correlation Combined with Empirical Mode Decomposition

To improve the accuracy of pulse matching and mapping quality lightning discharges, Pearson correlation method combined with empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is introduced for discharge electric field matching. This paper uses new to locate channels an intra-cloud (IC) flash a cloud-to-ground (CG) analyzes location results two flashes. The show that this has good performance in location. Compared pulse-peak feature method, positioning are significantly improved, which mainly due much larger number points (matched pulses). located radiation sources increased by nearly factor seven, can continuity channel clearly distinguish developmental characteristics. The principle is to build first an approximation of the signal mean envelope, which serves as initial guess for the optimization procedure.
